So the summer holidays have finally ended and a huge welcome to Year 6, your final year in Primary Education (sounds a bit scary for parents new to this experience, but it's a great year!)
As you can imagine we have an extremely busy year ahead of us so I will just look as far forward as half-term at the moment. The class will begin by looking at what they are looking forward to in Year 6, any anxieties they may have about what's in store and targets for the year too. As far as major topics go, our main focus will be on World War II with the whole class reading Goodbye Mr Tom with me. This will form the basis of our first 4 or 5 weeks of literacy too and is a fantastic way to begin the year. To develop this work even further we will be going to RAF Hendon Museum for a day just before half-term; full details will follow very shortly.
We will also begin to push on in reading, SPaG and Maths as there is so much to cover this year. I will always endeavour to push all children on as far as I can and support them when they need it. Mrs Gomes will also work closely with the children to make sure that they gain confidence in their work as the year progresses too.
In terms of day to day details, the children will need their outdoor PE Kits every Monday (for Tag Rugby training with the Bracknell Forest coach) and Wednesday with Achieve Sports. Indoor PE is also on a Wednesday with Mrs Raby and begins with dance. Please read the letter and Curriculum Information posted below and make sure you see the calendar dates for this term too on the website or via email. The first Parents' Evening is early on October so I hope to see you all then.
I will try my best to keep you up to date with everything as it goes on, but, as always, if any parents or carers want to speak to me about something to do with their child's schooling or issues that may have an effect on them whilst in school please feel free to try to catch me on the playground for something quick or make an appointment via the office if you need a longer chat.
Best wishes to you all
