Year 4

Teacher: Mr Crowther

Teaching Assistants: Mrs Vicary and Mrs Smit

Welcome to the class page for Year 4!

Our PE sessions will take place on a Friday morning. Children need to wear their PE kit to school. Most sessions will be outside. Please make sure that children have earrings taped over with plasters or micro-porous tape and long hair is tied back.

St Michael's PE Kit:

Plain white t-shirt

Black or purple shorts

Black or purple jogging bottoms

Black or purple sweatshirt/hoody

Suitable trainers

We read every day in Year 4, so please ensure the children always come to school with their reading book. In addition to this, our school library session is on Wednesday and the children may bring their book home to share with you. Please ensure that all books are protected from sticky fingers, younger siblings and pets! Thank you.

In Year 4, we have an increased focus on learning and using the times tables, so please encourage your child to practise these at home. Each pupil has a login for Times Tables Rockstars, please ask if it has been forgotten so we can give a reminder.

To help us have a smooth start to the day, please order lunches at home. If you need your log in details to order lunches then please ask the office.  Please also encourage your child to bring in a healthy snack for playtime and a full water bottle. Please be aware that this should only be water.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns, Mr Crowther will be available on the playground and will be happy to speak to you. If you need a little longer, please make an appointment either via the office or send a message through the Class Dojo platform.

Thank you so much for your support.

Welcome back to Spring Term 2 in Year 4!

Our topic for the coming half term is, 'At what point does a hill become a mountain?'.

As such, our in-class work will focus on mountains and hills as ecosystems and story settings. During our whole class reading sessions, we will be reading the book 'The Abominables' by Eva Ibbotson.

The homework grid and spellings lists are now on the school website. These new spellings lists replace the ones given at the start of the term as they align more with Spelling Shed.

Please encourage your child to continue reading daily and regularly accessing Spelling Shed, Numbots and Times Tables Rockstars. If you have any issues accessing the websites, please do let us know.

The weekly times tables tests have been uploaded to this website; you are welcome to use these to help your child learn the multiplication tables.

Finally, a quick reminder that children should not be bringing toys, trading cards or other such things to school. These are often a distraction and can lead to disappointment when they are lost or damaged.

A number of parents have asked about children bringing pencil cases to school - this is perfectly acceptable as long as the pencil cases are not overly large and are not expensive. Please encourage your child to take care of their belongings when at school by putting things in their tray or bag while they are not in use.

We look forward to another successful half term at St. Michael's!

Mr Crowther
